Things are looking up...

Things seem to be getting a little better over in Ethiopia in regards to adoption. The last we heard they were only processing about 5 adoptions per day. Since then it seems that have started processing more. We don't have official word on it all yet. So we're continuing to pray that things will get sorted out over there.. We also asked our Social Worker this week when we would be starting our homestudy. It's been about 6 weeks now since we turned in our paperwork and our homestudy is the next step. She said it would be a few more weeks before she could start. She has a few other families she is working on right now, which is something we really can't complain about. The waiting and lesson in patience has already begun, by the end of all this we should be pro's. We are excited to see our friends the Tyner's leave for Ethiopia on Thursday to bring home their two sons. So so exciting!

In other news we've been battling some nasty sickness in our house. I spent Sunday night in the ER with Carson and a very bad case of Croup. We are super thankful for a wonderful Children's Hospital that had us back in a room and on a Epinephrine breathing treatment and another oral steroid with in 15 minutes of our arrival. He is on the mend and we're prayerful that he will be better by the end of the week.
World's Greatest Patient...he was so brave. Kind of looks like ET with that oxygen monitor on his finger :)

  2. From a long time peds nurse, To those who are having alot of illnesses with your children. I wanted to suggest that you give them Vit D3(NOT D2) to boost their immune systems to a normal level. Most of us are low in D3 and it really is great to keep away influenza(flu)including H1N1 and lots of other illnesses. I take 2000IU myself. Children need about 1/2 that(or so) from foods, sunlight, and and supplements. If you research it there is a calculator for sunlight and food intake of D3 online. Drinking natural Keifer with or without pureed fruits is also a great way to boost little immune systems. We also use evaporated cane juice or fruit juice concentrates instead of sugar. Yes, they contain sugars but are so much better for you with vitamins and minerals. The Evap. cane juice works just like sugar but in drinks it takes a little longer to dissolve. Remember that all sugars interfere with antiinflammatory response so use them with care and moderation and combine them with proteins to prevent sugar spikes and drops. Hope this is of some help to you, if I had only known more about nutrition whaen mine were little.
